6 steps to glowing skin on your wedding day

Every bride wants to look and feel their best on the big day. Although the perfect wedding gown and accessories are obviously important, lots of brides want to glow – just like in the pages of a glossy magazine. Whatever your wedding budget, you deserve a flawless look on the most important day of your life. In this blog post, we reveal the 6 steps brides can take to achieve glowing, healthy and flawless skin on their big day.

Step 1 – Start preparations early

As with every aspect of the wedding planning process, refining your skincare routine sooner rather than later is essential. Don’t leave anything until the last minute when it comes to your skin, so avoid using any new products or experimenting with beauty treatments as your wedding date draws nearer. Many skin specialists recommend a period of at least 12 months to find and start a skincare routine that works.

Step 2 – Get to know your skin

Everyone’s skin is different, which means the route to flawless and glowing skin won’t be the same from bride to bride. Assessing your skin’s condition and type early will give you the information you need to adopt good skincare habits and set a routine in stone long before your wedding day arrives.

Step 3 – Adopt a skin friendly diet

Your skincare routine should be about more than just using the right products for your skin type. Brides interviewed skin care guru Dr. Nicholas Perricone to discover what a skin-friendly diet would look like, and this is what he had to say:

“Follow the anti-inflammatory diet, which consists of food and beverages that help maintain normal levels of insulin and blood sugar. Go for high-quality protein, such as fish, shellfish, poultry and tofu. Salmon, halibut, trout and other cold water fish give skin a great glow, as does taking at least three capsules of omega-3 fish oil supplements per day. Stick to low-glycemic carbohydrates such as colorful, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes. Don’t go fat free — that will ensure a dull, dry complexion — but eat healthy fats, such as nuts, seeds and olive oil. Drink antioxidant-rich beverages such as green tea and six to eight glasses of pure spring water per day.”

Although skin specialists suggest avoiding rigorous beauty treatments like facials in the weeks before your wedding, brides looking for glowing skin shouldn’t rule out beauty treatments completely. In addition to undertaking cleansing, toning and exfoliating treatments at home with the right products, opting for a monthly deep cleansing facial will help prep your skin. Making treatments like these a part of your routine is the key as your skin may not react kindly to new treatments.

Step 5 – Don’t forget to moisturise

The importance of moisturising should never be underestimated. Regardless of your skin type or condition, moisturising on a daily basis is one skincare step that should never be skipped. A good, skin-specific moisturiser with an SPF of at least 30 should be applied twice a day, not just to your face but all over your body. Pay special attention to those elbows, knees, feet and hands, areas that are often the first to become dry and dehydrated.

Step 6 – Use makeup to enhance your glow

You’ve spent weeks or even months creating the perfect base with a great skincare routine and skin-friendly diet, but remember it’s not cheating to use makeup to enhance your glow and flawlessness. Hire a professional makeup artist to create the perfect bridal look for you and make the most of the beautiful skin you’ve achieved.
