Read on to discover the things every winter mini-breaker should include in their itinerary and make 2020 a year to remember – for all the right reasons!

Hatfield Forest

For a glimpse of local history and nature, head to Hatfield Forest National Nature Reserve. The National Trust owned and managed site is Britain’s best example of a Royal Hunting Forest.

As a result, it has a long history to explore as well as a plethora of ancient tree species to admire. Many of the trees here are more than 1,000 years old, and support over 3,500 species of wildlife, including rare insects, lichens and fungi.

Sandylay and Moat Woods Nature Reserve

Outside the city, you’ll find the most stunning natural wonders. Sandylay and Moat Woods Nature Reserve is the jewel in the crown of the Essex region and consists of two beautiful woods bursting with wildlife, flora, and fauna.

The reserve is well known for its ancient and majestic lime tree, which sits at the very centre of Sandylay Woods.

RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Guests looking for something a little less wild but still outdoors should visit RHS Garden Hyde Hall on their trip.

Based just 30 minutes away from Leez Priory, you’ll find a beautifully tended, 360-acre site that’s only one of four maintained by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in England. Hyde Hall’s Winter Garden is particularly stunning as RHS details:

“Hyde Hall’s Winter Garden, which opened in winter 2018, and has been designed to show that gardens can look spectacular even through the coldest months of the year.

The Winter Garden celebrates seasonal change, from its autumn display of foliage and berries to the colourful stems and skeletal seedheads of the colder months, and it is a wonderful source of ideas for your own garden.”

Ingatestone Hall

If the weather outside isn’t too great, head to Ingatestone Hall. The Tudor house is the perfect setting to step back in time in the most elegant way.

We’d definitely recommend a guided tour, where you’ll not only see all eight of its finely decorated, heritage-rich rooms but hear all about its long and utterly fascinating history.

Braintree Village

Braintree Village in the heart of Essex is the place to be if you love a bit of retail therapy. The centre has more than 75 premium stores, ranging from independent retailers and boutiques to well-known brands and designer labels such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Reiss, Ted Baker, Hugo Boss, and Lyle and Scott.

Book a mini-break or dining experience at Leez Priory this winter, and say “goodbye” to 2020 in style. Just got married? Overseas travel may be off the menu but Leez Priory is a mini-moon destination that you and your new husband or wife will adore.
