A Guide to your day at Leez Priory

If you are staying in the Fisherman’s Cottage the night before your wedding you can arrive from 5.00pm. Your Personal Wedding Manager will meet you at 9.00am in the cottage to start moving you over to the Bride’s changing room.

If you aren’t staying in the cottage you can arrive from 9.00m on the morning of your wedding into the Bride’s changing room.

Civil Ceremony – This will last around 30 minutes.

Canapes and Welcome drinks – During this time you will have the majority of your photographs taken and you will have time to mingle with all of your guests. This usually lasts around 1.5 – 2 hours.

Greeting Line (also know as receiving line) – The greeting line is a tradition in which the newly wed couple and specific members of their families stand and greet guests into the wedding breakfast. It provides the opportunity for the newlywed couple to speak to and acknowledge each individual guest. This will usually take between 10 – 20 minutes.

Wedding Breakfast – The meal that follows your wedding ceremony is known as the wedding breakfast, the name comes from the past when traditionally the wedding ceremony was held after mass, the whole wedding party would fast before mass and so for the Bride and Groom this was their first meal. The meal usually lasts around 2 – 2.5 hours depending on the length of speeches.

Cutting of the cake – These days, the tradition of cutting the cake as a couple is ever more popular. Once the cake has been cut, the Groom will feed his Bride, and then the Bride will go second. This ritual symbolizes their commitment to provide for each other and contains the meaning of good luck and fortune. The cake cut will only last a few minutes.

First Dance and Evening Reception – The first time a newlywed couple dances together at the wedding reception is known as the first dance. This is a much-anticipated event and a special pre-selected song will be played by our DJ while wedding guests look on.

The dance floor is ‘officially’ open to guests following the first dance.

Carriages at midnight after a wonderful day!
