Every wedding theme has its own special impact on your big day. From Boho to steampunk and everything in between, guests will be left with vivid memories of the theme you choose. If you’re after some glitz and glamour, why not consider an old school Hollywood-themed wedding?
1. Silver Screen Glamour
If you want to look like a true Hollywood siren, Weddingomania offers the following advice:
“Create a gorgeous wedding look! Rock a stunning wedding dress, it may be off the shoulder, beaded, with fringe and pearls and lace, or it may be a silk wedding gown with a flattering silhouette. Don’t be afraid of sexy necklines, chic silhouettes and lots of sparkles to stand out – you want to achieve a chic and glam look. Add a vintage updo or Hollywood waves, red lipstick and statement earrings and voila – you are a chic girl! Grooms usually rock tuxedos but for chicer, he can go for a white dinner jacket. Bridesmaids are welcome to rock art deco beaded dresses of the colours they like.”
2. VIP
Try sending wedding invitations that resemble old-style admission tickets. You could also have your guests walk down the red carpet to your reception venue. Get some of your guests to play along and have them take photos of guests walking on the red carpet. It’ll give everyone the chance to feel like a real Hollywood star! Ask your guests to dress in elegant evening wear and tuxedos to enhance your vintage Hollywood themed wedding.
3. Take Two
You could accessorise your venue with retro cinema paraphernalia. Clapperboards make great table centrepieces and mini film reels can be used for seating place names. Instead of numbering your tables, name them after a Hollywood star, or put black and white framed photos of Hollywood stars around the venue. As a finishing touch, you could offer mini Oscar statues as wedding favours.
4. Lights, Camera, Action!
Use vintage cinema items as props for your reception. You could use old style cameras, spotlights, vintage film reels, directors’ chairs and boards and megaphones. Adding these props will give your venue an authentic feel and will get your guests into the spirit of the party.
5. After Show Party
To make your reception fit for an Oscars after-show party, you could hire a swing band or professional Rat Pack tribute singers. Just think, having Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin singing all the classics at your wedding reception. To surprise your guests, hire singing waiters to entertain friends and family at your wedding breakfast.
6. Trivia
Put some movie trivia cards on the table to get your guests chatting, this will help break the ice if some people don’t know each other. You could have some prizes at the end of the night for the table who got the most questions correct. Prizes could include cinema gift cards and DVD’s.
